![]() In honesty, I'd want Bugbear to code in realistic gearbox damage so if you thrash the box too much like a lot of kid ricers do then it'll probably turn into a box of scrap mid-race A risk for abusing manual transmission lol the advantage of manual should be in manual itself, not with some added bonus such as higher top speed. There were some higher-tier cars that required you to use manual transmission, though, so you were kinda forced into learning if you wanted to finish the game or complete the bonus class, since I think all the bonus cars except the Assoluto Squalo forced manual. Rage Racer did something similar where most cars could have both transmissions, but manual gave you a slight acceleration boost so the game became easier if you took the time to learn what to do. The incentive being faster car = higher ladder-score times. ![]() As many people have already said, the advantage of free-choice of when to shift up or down is advantage in itself Grid 2 does this pretty well where some corners you can gain an advantage with manual transmission by forcing a downshift when drifting, or when using the Caterham to rocket-launch or to keep it out of 3rd gear in sharp bends.ĭaytona did it as an incentive for arcade players to try, since the game itself wasn't too difficult to pick up and play. ![]() Click to expand. That wouldn't be fair on keyboard players or people who struggle with manual gears (like me, I can't use a clutch).
